Some companies demonstrate their commitment to D&I by adopting alternative, inclusive ownership structures such as employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), worker-owned cooperatives, and nonprofit/foundation ownership. These alternative ownership structures allow companies to respond to and disrupt the problematic lack of diversity in traditional business investing and ownership – a result of disparities in access to capital, existing business networks, biases, and historic inequities.
